Kurdish New Year events in Southern California
Kurdishaspect.com - Public Announcment.
The Kurdish New Year is about the beginning of the green season and celebrating life. Symbolically it also dates back to the myth of Kawa and Dhahak. Like his descendants such as Saladin and Talebani, Kawa was against oppression. Like them, he believed in fighting injustice with armed struggle, succeeded in his mission first, but failed ultimately to fulfill the dream of his own people and promoted the cause of others. Today many Kurds have learned from the past, behave like other nations, and help themselves before helping others to support the evolution of the Kurdish society. Newroz of today for many is no longer about overthrowing violence with violence but about demanding equality with peaceful means and assertive communication.
Although the Kurds are the original owners of Newroz, many other nations have integrated celebrating this day in their culture. Unlike St Patrick's day that is religious, Newroz is a secular holiday and is on March 21st, the Spring Equinox. Those who have integrated celebrating Spring Equinox include nations that speak languages such as Afghani, Armenian, Arabic, Assyrian, Azari, Baluchi, Caldanian, Kurdish, Jewish, Persian, Tajiki, Turcoman, Turkish, etc. Members of these and all other nations are welcome to join any or all of the following events and share the joy of Newroz with the Kurdish Community.
