Comment on “Open Letter to Barzani and Talabani" - By Omar Sheikhmous

I would like to express my deep gratitude, respect and appreciation to the group of well-known international journalists, who as genuine friends of the Kurdish people, have addressed an open letter to Presidents Talabani and Barzani about freedom of press and the security of journalists in Kurdistan. And in which they express their legitimate deep concern about the threats to that freedom. These friends, as journalists and writers, have done great deeds and services for the just struggle of the Kurdish and their yearning towards freedom. Their views should be seriously respected and their concerns should be responded to by initiating an impartial commission of investigation into the killing of Sardasht Othman and the harassments against other journalists in Kurdistan. Our people did not sacrifice and fight for generations so that its basic human rights and freedom of expression be violated in such a manner.

I bow in respect to the effort of these international journalist friends and thank them from the bottom of my heart for this effort.
