American Express
Turkey should recognise the real threat

Kudishaspect.com - By Peter Stitt

On Monday the Americans will sit down at a table with Iranians in Baghdad to discuss the violent sectarianism within Iraq.  Would the US choose to deal with Iran if it had any choice?  No.  So why is this happening?

One news report on Yahoo stated that the US government had recognised and accepted that Iranian influence has superseded US influence in Iraq and, frankly, any idiot can see that this has always been true with the majority of Iraq's citizens being Shia.  So Turkey, your American friends have less control over what is going on in Iraq than Iran does.  Do you feel confident?

Turkey prides itself on being a secular state and I applaud the Turks for this, they are the first predominantly Muslim people to separate Church from State and I must compliment Kamal Attaturk for this, he was a visionary and a true Turkish nationalist.  I also have other opinions about him.

Now Turkey must consider the consequences of Iraq remaining a sovereign
state with a huge majority Shia government, the KRG being absorbed into a theocratic Islamic state, an Islamic state sharing a border with Turkey.  Does that sound appealing to Turks?   I don't think so.

Turkey is currently complaining about the issue of Turkmen in Kirkuk and Mosel and the notion of them coming under direct Kurdish government rule.  Would Turkey prefer them to come under the rule of Shia clerics?  I respect and admire Ayatollah Ali Al Sistani but I suspect the future belongs to Muqtadr Al Sadr.  Does Turkey think he will make a good "next-door neighbor"?

Here's the point Turkey, you can either accept the creation of the first Kurdish nation in Southern Kurdistan and your people in those cities will live within a regime that gives everyone equal access to voting, health care, education, freedom of ethnic and cultural expression as a citizen regardless of ethnic origin or religion or, you can continue to object to Kurdish nationalist aspirations and what will you get?  Your people will be living in Kirkuk and Mosul under an Islamic regime that bans the sort of freedom you know in Turkey.  And because you will have subjected Kurds to that regime, the religious zealots will be at your border.

Kurdistan creates a natural buffer zone between Turkey and the madness of middle-eastern theocracies.  Ironically, the creation of the first internationally recognised Kurdish state in Southern Kurdistan is in the best interests of Turkey's secular system!  The existence of a secular Kurdish state is the best outcome for Turkey!

Turkey should be praying for a divided Iraq with a strong Kurdistan keeping the extremists and terrorists away from the Turkish border but, instead, anti-Kurdish racist attitudes prevent the Turkish leadership (the military) from seeing the truth of the situation and they continue to object to the self-determination of Southern Kurdistan including the areas of Kirkuk and Mosul.

If the Turkish government and military continue on their current course they will be shaking hands with the Ayatollahs in Ibrahim Khalill and Silopi and witnessing the terrorist destruction and Islamisation of Turkey very soon.  They won't just destroy Kurdistan, they will destroy their own beloved Turkey as well!

The Turkish leadership is more stupid than it looks!  And it's already looking pretty stupid and ugly. Turkish foreign policy is looking like a car crash.  There's no thinking behind it, it's a disaster waiting to happen.  So, soon we may be dealing with the "Islamic Republic of Turkey", shortly after the creation of the "Islamic Republic of Iraq".   The shadowy figures behind Turkish politics are being so short-sighted in their view of the bigger picture.  Excellent planning Turkish Military High Command.  Congratulations on your abject stupidity.

I am Scottish and I can see this, why can't the Turkish leadership when they have grown up in the region?  Is blind hatred of Kurds enough to accept the destruction of one's own secular state?  The Turkish army, like the British and American armies, is excellently prepared to fight armies but they are not prepared and are totally unsuited to fighting religiously motivated terrorists.

If Turkey ends up with Prime Minister Muqtadr Al Sadr on its border, Istanbul will end up being the next Baghdad.  Istanbul is the most beautiful city I have ever visited and I love the place and its people.  I believe 100% in secularism and I pray Turkey finds the strength to see the benefits of the first Kurdish state in South Kurdistan.  It makes sense for everyone who believes in secularism and democracy, be they Scottish Kurdish or Turkish.

May God bless the Kurdish people and the Turkish people.  But let's keep God away from politics....
