The Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in UAE has issued following clarification:
First, we like to advice all those who are involved and concerned about major Kurdish issues to check their facts before taking and believing in the face value of what media publishes, report and makes of the news and particularly those statements attributed to Kurdish officials. The subject statement credited to H.E. the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government Mr. Nechirvan Barzani while visiting Dubai, UAE unfortunately was misinterpreted and reported as such. His Excellency the Prime Minister made subsequent statements to shade some light and explain the KRG's unchanged position towards this point later on when he returned to Erbil the regional capital of Kurdistan.
The Prime Minister has been always one of the staunchest defenders of the implementation of article 140 of the 2005 Iraqi constitution concerning kirkuk and other Kurdistani areas that were subjected to Arabization by various Iraqi governments prior to 2003.Also his government has resorted to all constitutional, legal and peaceful means to ensure the return of those regions including kirkuk to the bosom of Iraqi Kurdistan.
However, the misinterpretation occurred from the fact that H.E. expressed his government's willingness to share power with other ethnic and religious groups who are part of the natural make-up of kirkuk society fabric and specifically Arabs, Turkmen and others. While this was interpreted otherwise, it did not mean more that KRG's willingness to share administrative positions and posts while insisting on the implementation of article 140 and the restoration of those areas accordingly .Basically the sharing element in that statement only meant posts and certainly not dropping the Kurdish demands for the implementation of article 140 and the return of Arabized lands to Kurdistan according to the Iraqi federal constitution.
KRG under the leadership of Mr. Nechirvan Barzani continues on insisting on full Kurdish demands that were stipulated in the Iraqi constitution, and there is no shift in that position until all our demands are met where we can build a better and brighter future for our people within the framework of a federal and democratic Iraq.
