This seminar will explore the environment of free and independent media, as opposed to state-controlled. Aspects examined will include the awareness on the part of media professionals of their rights and of the authorities of their obligations; the liberalisation of information from the authorities; empowering people with information to communicate freely with media outlets; the availability of sufficient resources including expertise and investment; relaxing laws of media; and, the availability of effective civil organisations to create the environment of free media.
As an independent website, KurdishMedia.com has contributed alleviation and promotions of Kurdish/non Kurdish writers, journalists, reporters, opinion writers who write in English. Recently this pioneering website has been experiencing technical difficulties due to internet sabotage and it is temporarily down.
