KDP and another strategic mistake

In my previous article, dated 5th July 2009, I stated that ‘the Kurdish people have been waiting for a robust constitution for the last 18 years’. The KDP have tried very hard to pass that constitution to Parliament but have failed and the Independent High Commission has rejected the date of the 25th July to be the referendum of the constitution.
The KDP have made another strategic mistake this time with its alliance to the PUK who have lost their basis and grassroots support all over the south of Kurdistan, including Sulaimaniyah and Erbil. Once again, the KDP have failed to grasp the prediction that the PUK are not heading for victory. That mistake is similar to the one they made on 31st August 1996 when they called for the assistance of the Iraqi army for help against attack from the PUK. KDP intellectuals and their school of thought are very much kept in the dark or ignored by the KDP leaders. Otherwise, how could it be possible for the KDP to be allied to the PUK in the 2009 election in which in fact, the PUK is the losing party?
Almost every night, Massoud Barzani can be seen on Kurdish broadcasting stations asking for the support of the people and the response from the people to this are very vague and indifferent. People are aware of the fact that their leaders are not coming to them until this time as the election approaches. At the same time, the good news is that for the element of democracy parties should be listening to the voice of the people; this is the key to the progress and successful change of our Kurdish nation.
