An Islamic group affiliated with Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for killing seven Kurdish border guards

Awene: The Kurdistan battalion of Islamic State in Iraq claimed responsibility for attacking border areas in Penjwen. In a statement received by Awene The Kurdistan battalion of Islamic State in Iraq, a group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for killing seven Kurdish border guards and a civilian.

The statement says, "The Kurdistan battalion of Islamic State in Iraq attacked a vehicle that carried Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's policemen near Kani Khan village in Panjwen district and killed seven border guards, one of them was an officer." The statement also said that the battalion confronted a group of PUK security forces and killed one of them near Kani Khan Village. The statement said that the PUK force retreated from the area.
