"IRANIAN American Hollywood actress SHIVA ROSE plays Layla, a Kurdish Muslim refugee in New York who sheds her headscarf to follow her passion to dance in freedom. She decides her own destiny, including marrying a man of a different race and religion.
This first urban film about modern Kurds in Diaspora uses the playful veils of comedy, sex and romance to touch upon the history of Kurdistan and the joys and pains of Kurds. Without being didactic, it treats many sensitive issues- Kissinger/Shah of Iran, Halabja, Anfal, Kerkuk, Turkey, Israel, Religion… as well as Ziryeb and Saladin.
Without preaching, the film celebrates Kurdish culture- food, music, humor, artifact, folklore, tradition, wedding…
David & Layla is also considered as a ‘Love & Peace’ film promoting getting along and living together with equality as diverse nations and religions.
