Press Release
Millions of Kurdish people all over the world have joined in protests and raged against the Turkish Military establishment.
Enough is Enough!
Hands off the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan!
For decades now the Turkish Army have suppressed the Kurdish people with the worst barbaric human rights abuses including forced depopulation of Kurdish villages, rape, killings and torture.
The leader of the Kurdish Freedom Movement, Abdullah Ocalan, was kidnapped in 1999 and imprisoned on Imrali Island, near Istanbul, where he has remained the sole prisoner kept in solitary confinement in fragrant breech of all international human rights conventions.
Last week, after a visit by his lawyers it was revealed that Abdullah Ocalan had been physically assaulted in his cell by the prison authorities. As his cell conditions are monitored and supervised by the Turkish Generals themselves, this is a blatant political attack and provocation directed to all Kurdish people.
Coming at a time when the Turkish Generals are rejecting any political and peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue and instead increasing their own military solution this is seen as carefully thought out plan to block any peaceful solution and further polarise the situation. Almost as soon as the news was revealed than protests spontaneously exploded onto the streets of every town and city where there are Kurdish people.
From London to Istanbul, Izmir to Dogubayazit, Diyarbakir to Hakkari, Hamburg to Sulemania, Kurdish people took to the streets in their millions and vented their anger, and extraordinarily virtually ignored in the UK Media.
For three days uprisings took place all over Kurdistan and Turkey and in Dogubayazit one young protester, Ahmet Ozkan, was shot and killed by the Turkish police. Still Kurdish anger resonates as protests continue! As the people of Dogubayazit, buried the latest victim of Turkey's racist war against the Kurds, it was revealed that his father had died as a result of torture years before. A potent and tragic example of Turkey's murderous policies towards the Kurds.
Now the Kurds in London and UK will protest on a demonstration this Sunday.
