Awene reported that Turkish National Security Council has recommended that the government should take economic measures to force cooperation by KRG against the Kurdish rebels. The Center of Halabja against Anfalization and Genocide of the Kurds known as (CHAK) sent out a memorandum encouraging Kurdish citizens everywhere to boycott all Turkish products, in response to the economic sanctions recommended by Turkey.
Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) relies heavily on Turkish goods in its markets. Ankara is also one of the main suppliers of electricity to Kurdistan.
Meanwhile, The Associated Press reported on Thursday that the speaker of Iraq’s parliament warned Turkey that his government would cut off the flow of oil from northern Iraq if Ankara followed through on its threat to level economic sanctions against the country.
"Northern Iraq cannot be pressured," al-Mashhadani told reporters in the Syrian capital of Damascus. "Iraq is a rich country, and if there are economic pressures, we will cut off the Ceyhan pipeline," he said, referring to two oil pipelines that run from northern Iraq to Turkey's Ceyhan oil terminal on the Mediterranean Sea.
