U.S. helps Turkey attack Kurdish villages in Iraq

Kurdishaspect.com - By Karwan Simek

Recent reports have surfaced indicating heavy United States involvement in the recent large air strikes against Kurdish villages in Iraq. The air strikes came as surprise to many dropping heavy bombs destroying villages in the region, injuring many and causing civilian casualties. One target included the village of Suradeh, as reported by the Boston Globe, which is the home of at least 30 families. The Kurdish residents of Suradeh, like many others in the area, evacuated the area during the time of the strikes and returned to find their homes destroyed and their livestock killed.

Several reports in the Kurdish and Western media reported civilian casualties despite the denial by Turkish officials that any civilian targets were hit. The Associated Press showed actual footage of the destroyed villages and reported civilian causalities including women in the villages.

Although initially denied by U.S. officials, the Washington Post has now reported that the United States both approved the attacks and handed the specific targets to the Turkish military. Immediately following the attacks, officials in the Kurdistan region raised concerns and blamed the United States for not preventing the attacks from taking place. The President of the Kurdistan region, Mesud Barzani, went further to state, "The Americans are responsible because the Iraqi sky is under their full control." So far, it is unknown whether the Kurdistan Regional
Government in Iraq will take any action.
